Stainless Steel Laser Cutting Service

Laser cut stainless steel, priced in one upload.

Stainless steel laser cutting is the fastest way to make flat stainless parts. Our fiber laser follows your file through the sheet and leaves a sharp, clean edge that is ready to bend, weld or tap.

We keep 304 and 316 on the shelf from 0.030″ sheet to 1/2″ plate, so most stainless parts price instantly and ship in days. Need thicker stainless, up to 1.000″? We source the plate and an estimator confirms your quote.

  • Up to 1.000″ thick on the fiber laser, depending on the material
  • Parts up to 58″ × 118″ on the laser bed
  • Deburred as standard, no sharp edges unless you ask otherwise

Grades We Cut

304 and 316 stainless steel, both on the shelf.

304 stainless

The everyday grade. Excellent corrosion resistance indoors and outdoors, good formability and weldability, and it costs less than 316. Most enclosures, brackets, panels and frames are 304. On our shelf from 0.030″ to 1/2″.

316 stainless

316 adds molybdenum, which stands up to salt, chlorides and many chemicals. It is the usual choice for marine, medical, food and chemical parts. On our shelf from 16 gauge (0.060″) to 1/2″.

Not sure which grade you need? Read 304 vs 316 stainless. Need another grade? Send the drawing for a custom quote and an estimator will confirm the material before you order.

Thickness and Gauge

Stainless thicknesses we stock, by gauge.

Every thickness in the table prices instantly in the quote portal, where you can order stainless parts online. Anything marked custom quote can be sourced, and an estimator confirms the price and lead time.

The same gauge number means a different thickness in steel, stainless and aluminum, so put the decimal on your drawing. Our sheet metal gauge chart lists all three side by side.

Laser or Waterjet

Which process fits your stainless part?

On sheet and light plate the fiber laser is the fast choice. The beam melts a narrow path, so a thin heat affected zone can form along the cut edge. For most brackets, panels and covers, that edge is all you need.

Our abrasive waterjet cuts stainless cold, with no heat affected zone, up to 4.00″ thick. That keeps the corrosion resistance right at the cut edge, which matters on thick plate and on parts for harsh service. Read why waterjet leaves no heat affected zone.

You pick the process per part, and one quote covers price, lead time and shipping.

Can a CO2 laser cut stainless steel?

Some CO2 lasers can, but sheet metal shops mostly cut stainless on fiber lasers, because metal absorbs the fiber beam well. At ACP every stainless part runs on the fiber laser. Our Kern CO2 laser is kept for acrylic and selected plastics.

What does the cut edge look like?

Sharp, with fine lines that vary with the thickness and the assist gas. Tell us if a face is cosmetic and we will advise on the best process. For thick plate, compare both in Cutting Thick Metal: Waterjet vs Laser.

Bend, Tap, Finish

From laser cut blank to finished stainless part.

Most stainless parts need more than a cut. The same team bends, taps, adds hardware and deburrs, so your part leaves one shop ready to assemble.

Bent to your angle

Stainless springs back more than mild steel, so we bend a touch past the target to land on your number. TRUMPF press brakes, up to 96″ long, ±0.030″ and ±1°.

Countersinks and UNC, UNF or metric threads are added in house. PEM style nuts, studs and standoffs are pressed in after bending.

Checked before it ships

Laser cut parts go through a quality check, every lot is sampled to AQL 4.0, and every part is deburred. Powder coat and plating run through vetted partners on the same order.

Need the whole assembly? Our stainless steel fabrication services cover cutting, bending, tapping, hardware and finishing in one order. See how we inspect on our quality page.

Stainless FAQ

Common questions

Can you laser cut stainless steel?

Yes. We laser cut 304 and 316 stainless steel on our fiber laser, up to 1.000″ thick depending on the material, and every part ships deburred. Upload a STEP or DXF to see the price right away.

How thick can you laser cut stainless steel?

Up to 1.000″, depending on the material. Stainless from 0.030″ to 1/2″ is on our shelf, and thicker plate is sourced for a custom quote. For thicker parts, our waterjet cuts stainless up to 4.00″.

Which stainless steel grades do you stock?

304 from 0.030″ to 1/2″ and 316 from 16 gauge (0.060″) to 1/2″. Other grades can be sourced for a custom quote.

Can a CO2 laser cut stainless steel?

Some CO2 lasers can, but we cut all stainless on our fiber laser. Our Kern CO2 laser handles acrylic and selected plastics.

Does laser cutting hurt the corrosion resistance of stainless?

The laser leaves a thin heat affected zone at the cut edge. On most parts that does not matter. If the part will see salt, chemicals or harsh washdown, cut it on our waterjet, which leaves no heat affected zone.

What tolerances do you hold on laser cut stainless?

Holes and hole locations ±0.005″ and outside profiles ±0.010″ on parts up to 24″ × 24″. Add ±0.002″ to the profile for every 12″ beyond that. Tighter tolerances need a custom quote.

Can you bend, tap and add hardware to stainless parts?

Yes. We bend stainless on TRUMPF press brakes up to 96″ long, tap UNC, UNF and metric threads in house, and press in PEM style hardware on a custom quote.

How fast can I get laser cut stainless parts?

Instant quote orders ship in 7 business days and custom quotes in 14. You can expedite to 3 business days or the next business day. Order cut off is 1pm ET.

Is there a minimum order?

No. One prototype quotes and ships the same way as a production run.

Can I get a quote without a CAD file?

Yes. Send a drawing, PDF or photo through the contact form and the team returns a custom quote, typically within 24 hours.
