Waterjet Cutting

Waterjet cutting uses a high pressure stream to cut without creating a heat affected zone. Abrasive waterjet is used for most metals, plastics, and composites. Pure water cutting may be used for selected foams and rubbers.

Process characteristics

  • The cutting stream is round and is typically about 0.030" to 0.042" in diameter. A sharp internal 90 degree corner cannot be produced without a radius or relief.
  • ACP uses 0.030" as the standard minimum inside corner radius for Instant Quote parts up to 1.000" thick.
  • ACP’s taper control head can typically hold edge taper to about 0.002" under standard conditions. Results depend on material, thickness, geometry, and cut quality.
  • Abrasive may be embedded or remain on some surfaces and internal features. Clean critical surfaces when required.
